Case Study: Non-Explosive Granite Excavation Behind a Residential Area — Shandong, China
Customer & project
A Shandong contractor needed to excavate a foundation pit directly behind a residential complex in hard granite — where blasting is prohibited.
The challenge
– No blasting allowed: zero tolerance for vibration and flying rock next to homes.
– Dense, high-hardness granite slowed conventional single-machine breaking.
– Strict noise and safety requirements to protect residents’ daily life.
The solution
The customer chose a complete DEVELON scheme delivered by Yonghong: a DX680HD large excavator equipped with a 220 heavy-duty breaker, combined with a DX380 hydraulic splitter for static layered rock splitting (see Solution page for the full process).
The results
– Fully static, compliant operation — no explosives, minimal vibration, controlled noise.
– Significantly higher output than breaker-only work, with markedly lower hammer wear and replacement cost.
– The project progressed on schedule while neighborhood activities continued undisturbed.
